Knights Notes

Franklin opened its new stadium at the high school, but lost to Sharpsville, 41-6...Sophomore John Carson, a transfer from Venango Christian, scored the Knights' first TD there on a 15-yard pass from Jeff Baughman...

Baughman and Dave Powell shared the quarterbacking duties for the Knights on the season, but few individual stats were kept...Powell, however, did pass for 224 yards -- which was thought to be a school record -- against Warren...

Five of Powell's six TD passes on the season came between Weeks 4-6...He threw a 77-yard bomb to Mike Snell against Greenville, and two TDs apiece against Hickory and Warren....He hit Snell on a 49-yard scoring bomb against Warren and Andy Adams for a 70-yarder to set up another TD against the Dragons...

Snell scored four TDs, including a 51-yard pass from Baughman against Grove City...Bailey led the Knights with seven touchdowns, including a 91-yard kickoff return against Reynolds in which he received a key block from Buddy Stallone...He also threw a  25-yard scoring strike to Snell in that game...Another Bailey TD came on a 23-yard return of a blocked punt. Jim Shilliday blocked the kick...An interception by Jim Case led to one of Bailey's three TDs against Meadville...

Adams also scored four TDs...His 63-yard run set up a TD against Grove City...Stan Eakin broke off a 58-yard run aainst Erie Tech

Four different players threw for a touchdown. The other was Mark Riddle on an 11-yard pass to Steve Phipps against Oil City...

Tech's Amos Tate rushed for 114 yards to go over 1,000 for the season and scored on a 95-yard interception return...Tate passed NFL star Fred Biletnikoff as, according to Jack Mays in the News-Herald,  the "all-time offensive leader for the Centaurs"...Hickory's Joe Valentino threw three TD passes and scored on an 86-yard run against the Knights...
