Knights Notes

The Knights rallied from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to beat Warren and clinch their first Northwest Conference championship...They also won the Section 2 title, their first since 1967...Otis Law's 47-yard run in the third quarter put them ahead to stay...A 9-yard run by QB Frank Trinch extended the lead to 24-14 with 6:22 left... Brad Crawshaw (136 yards) and Law (127) each gained more than 100 yards...

The victory over Hickory wrapped up the first unbeaten, untied season in school history...Trinch threw for a TD and scored two others, one on a 39-yard lateral from Dave Hasson...

A victory celebration was held at South Park bandstand that night...Mayor Charles Rodgers congratulated the team and coaches, and superintendent Robert McElhatten said there school would be let out a half hour earlier the coming Tuesday through Thursday...MC Larry Beightol of WFRA introduced head coach Dave Stewart...Also offering remarks were assistant coaches Larry Schrecengost, Al Shilling, Lou Slautterback, Frank Fultz and Mike Romaniszyn; high school principal John Weichel and Quarterback Club president Ralph Brunton...Booster Club president Bruce Turner announced the players would receive white jackets, which would become the trademark of FHS championship teams...

Law's 30-yard run was the difference in the Titusville game...And his 67-yard TD was the difference in the Sharpsville game. Law also had two of the Knights' four interceptions against the Blue Devils...Steve Eakin's 10-yard pass to Gene Ray with 23 seconds left in the half broke a scoreless tie against Corry...Dave Baughman's 43-yard run with an intercepted lateral put the exclamation point on the Corry game...

With the Knights nursing a 7-0 halftime lead, Frank Trinch returned the second half kickoff 68 yards for a touchdown and Mick Harris ran the conversion against Oil City...Dave Hasson threw a 30-yard scoring pass to Gary Blair, and scored two TDs -- one on a 24-yard pass from Law and the other on a 38-yard interception -- against Meadville...Buzzy Scott added a 36-yard scoring run against the Bulldogs...

Trinch's 20-yard TD pass to Matt Kollar in the fourth quarter extended the Knights' lead over Grove City...

Trinch led the Knights with seven TDs and 44 points...Four different players threw TD passes on the season. Trinch and Hasson each had two, and Eakin and Law had the others...Law finished with four TDs...

Harris kicked a field goal in the opener with Reynolds. It was the Knights' first field goal since 1924 when Howard Fosterbooted two against Knox...
