Nursery Rhymes

Ed McDowell's interception on the next-to-last play of the game preserved the Nusery's win over Warren...Rusty Reitz, Bill McCullough and Chuck Jones all scored on short runs for the Nursery, Jones' TD giving it the lead...Gary Abel kicked two extra points...The Nursery almost at least tied Meadville the next week..Don Findlay's 47-yard scoring run in the first quarter was the difference...The Nurserymen had a 41-yard TD pass from McCullough to Don Moyar  on a "sleeper play" called back due to a backfield in motion penalty...

Corry built a 49-0 lead before the Nursery scored in the third quarter on McCullough's 1-yard run...Gene Kresinski's 21-yard dash on a Statue of Liberty play set up the score...The Nursery scored on a 16-yard pass from McCullough to Jones in the first quarter, but it didn't hold up against Grove City; the Eagles answered in the second quarter to salvage the tie...


Bill Fink scored two TDs to stake Oil City St. Joe to a 14-6 lead over the Nursery in the second quarter...The Irish pulled away in the third after Tom Karg recovered a fumble and Bill Bryan tossed a 5-yard scoring pass to Fred Smith for another TD...The News-Herald speculated that it might have been St. Joe's first win in its 22-year football history over a Class A school, but the Irish beat Erie Prep in 1937, 1938 and 1940. They also beat Farrell in 1939...

The Nursery avoided a shutout against Titusville when Jones scored on a 34-yard run late in the game...The Nursery was missing three regulars, and McCullough injured an ankle early in the game...The Nurserymen led Oil City 13-7 at halftime on two TDs by Jones, but the lead didn't hold...Jones led the Nurserymen with eight TDs and 49 points...

Kresinski had two catches for 65 yards against Titusville....
