Nursery Rhymes

Jim McCullough accounted for all nine Nursery TDs on the season, passing for six and scoring three others. He also kicked all seven FHS extra points...McCullough tossed two TD passes to Jay Rhoades against Warren and two to Bill McGuckin against Clarion...McGuckin caught three TD passes in all...John Harris caught the other TD pass, which came in the opener against Bradford...A 25-yard pass to Rhoades set up that score...Bradford was on an 11-game winning streak at the time...

Three of Warren's six TDs came on a 94-yard pass play, a 60-yard interception and an 85-yard kickoff return...The Nurserymen threw six interceptions, four of which led to touchdowns against Greenville...The Nursery avoided a shutout against Grove City when McCullough scored on an 8-yard scramble in the fourth quarter...A fumble recovery by Harris ignited the drive, which included a 26-yard screen pass to Dick Manson...

McCullough scored on a 34-yard scramble against Punxsutawney, and threw a 28-yard TD pass to McGuckin...Great line in The News-Herald on the report of the game: "Wachob plunged over for the last TD for the boys from the groundhog town"...

Titusville was coach by former FHS assistant Bob Lytle...According to The News-Herald, "The Nursery bandsmen made a big hit with a 'Floating F' march formation in which they floated a pipe and played 'I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles' as inflated balloons were released into the air from the bowl of the pipe."...
